Dr Yeap Swan Sim is a Consultant Rheumatologist at Puchong Medical Specialist Centre, Selangor, Malaysia. She is also attached to Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya, Malaysia and is an Honorary Consultant at University Malaya Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Her previous appointments include Associate Professor and Head of the Rheumatology Unit at the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya.
Dr Yeap graduated MBChB from the University of Dundee and went onto obtain her MRCP(UK) while training in Internal Medicine in Dudley, UK. Her rheumatology training was done in the Nottingham and Leicester Senior Registrar rotation, following which she obtained her Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CSST) (UK) in General Medicine and Rheumatology in 1997. She was awarded her MD degree in 1997 from the University of Dundee for her MD thesis “Aspects in the Pathogenesis of Osteoporosis”. In 1998, Dr Yeap returned to Malaysia to work at the University of Malaya.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and of London, Dr Yeap’s other memberships include the British Society for Rheumatology, UK, National Osteoporosis Society, UK, Arthritis Foundation Malaysia (where she is a committee member), Persatuan Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Malaysia (where she is the Vice-President), Malaysian Osteoporosis Society (where she is the current President [2010-2012]) and Malaysian Medical Association. She is the current Vice-President of the Asia-Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) [2010-2012] and Past President of the Malaysian Society of Rheumatology [2004-2008].
Having previously served as an Expert Panel Committee Member of the Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Management of Osteoporosis (1999–2000, 2004-2005), Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Management of Osteoarthritis of the Hip and Knee (2001–2002) and as Editor and Expert Panel Committee Member of the Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Management of Gout (2003–2004, 2006), Dr Yeap currently serves on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases. Her clinical and research interests focus on osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, in which she has published many articles.
Dr Yeap’s interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and auto-immune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus.
